OPPO’s INNO DAY 2020 showed new technologies that will lead smartphones to the next level.
In brief, it showed off a rollable screen smartphone, AR glasses, and an Android Colour management system. It also showed new cloud options.
INNO DAY 2020
The Android Colour management system will be on the 2021 Find X3 series.
It supports 10-bit (over 1 billion colours) through the entire still and video image camera process – shooting, computation, encoding, storage, decoding and display. What you shoot is what you see.
In brief
- Full DCI-P3 gamut
- D65 a.k.a 6500° Kelvin white point (previously most used D50 that is too yellow)
- 10-bit HEIF (High-Efficiency Image File Format). A new compression similar in size to a JPEG without loss, better HDR support and better for editing.
- The first to support Digital Overlap (DOL) HDR image sensors. It synthesises different exposure conditions into an image. The result is vibrant colours even when pictures are taken against bright light.
- Screen calibration to .4 JNCD (Just Noticeable Colour Difference). Anything <1 is perfect.

Rollable handset (concept)
It features three OPPO patented technologies
- Roll Motor Powertrain: Two drive motors automatically and smoothly extend and retract ensuring screen stress is equally distributed
- 2-in-1 Plate: A display support technology with two support substrates on either side of the inside of the device.
- Warp Track high-strength screen laminate built of a unique, extra strong steel, at its thinnest it is only 0.1millimeters thick.
At present, it can extend up to 7.4”. A rollable creates all kinds of issues for camera placement, storage, electronics, and OPPO hope to see it released in 2021.
Razor-sharp technology – AR Glasses
A new split design for a compact, ultra-light 117g device. The immersive experience uses ‘Birdbath’ optical technology which increases contrast, brightness uniformity and pixels per degree.
Birdbath is a new kind of near-eye optics using a spherical mirror/combiner (part-mirror) and a beam splitter. The name is because the optics look like a birdbath.
